BIRD (thinking): But in lots of new and interesting ways.

Writing Process

SHELKEY: I am a writer.
SHELKEY: And I have a PROCESS.

SHELKEY: I pick a quiet spot. I clean the space. I make oolong tea.
SHELKEY: Then, I sit... and I WRITE.

A pause.

SHELKEY: Lastly, I quit writing forever and hurl my typewriter into the sea.

BIRD (thinking): Great art takes time.

A pause.

Your Only Hobby

RABBIT: Is painting your only hobby? BIRD: "Hobby"? "HOBBY"?!

BIRD: Painting is not my "HOBBY". It's my LIFE! I EAT painting! I BREATHE painting! I sleep, I... I DREAM painting!

SHELKEY: I hope they like this song. I need them to like me.

SHELKEY: I mean IT. I need them to like IT.

SHELKEY: (sigh)

SHELKEY: I mean me.

BIRD: So... do you like it?

BIRD: It's OK if you don't.

BIRD: Just say yes.

BIRD: Just say SOMETHING.

BIRD: NO! You know what? NO!! We are NO LONGER FRIENDS! Good DAY!!

A pause as the rabbit looks unsettled.

Yourself and Your Art

FLYNN: All you ever talk about is yourself and your art.

SHELKEY: Wow... I'm SO sorry...

SHELKEY: Now, WHY do I do that? And does it affect my ART? Let's talk about this...

Get Ready For Brilliance

BIRD (thinking): Get ready for BRILLIANCE.

SQUANK! A bird sings badly.

A pause as a bird watches people flee their singing.

BIRD (thinking): (sigh) They weren't ready.

Others Live, I Create

SHELKEY: Others just live. I CREATE.

Art is created.

SHELKEY: Living doesn't look so bad though.

Nobody Likes Me

SHELKEY: Nobody likes me.

ROONIE: Hey! You sounded OK last night.

A pause.

SHELKEY: Everyone LOVES me.
